Wheel throwing basics

Three hours on the wheel with a potter who has taught more than 900 first-timers. You will centre, open and pull up at least two pieces, then choose one to trim and glaze.

What you will do

  • Wedge and centre 1.5 kg of stoneware clay
  • Throw a cylinder, then a small bowl
  • Pick a glaze from the studio's twelve tested colours
  • Collect the fired piece two weeks later, or have it posted
